The Calvary Baptist Church held its
first worship service in April of 1978. Three
families felt led of the Lord to begin an
independent, soul-winning, separated, Baptist church
to reach the Dover and York area for Jesus Christ.
The Calvary Baptist Church of Lancaster,
Pennsylvania, served as our “mother church,” helping
with financial and prayer support until our church
was established.
Our Pastors
Gregory Wahlberg was called to serve as the first
pastor, and moved to York in June 1978 after
graduating from the Calvary Baptist Seminary in
Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Pastor Wahlberg grew up in
Minnesota in a loving home, a Protestant church, and
was not saved until age 19 while attending the
University of Minnesota at Morris. This is where he
met his wife Debra, who was saved at age 20. They
have 3 married children; Sarah, James, and Katie.
Tom Vietti has served at Calvary Baptist since 1992
in the capacity of Youth Pastor. He is from
Michigan, and received his training at Maranatha
Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wisconsin. He
met his wife Laine at Maranatha, and they have a son
Craig, and a daughter Carissa.
Pastor Hall has served at Calvary Baptist since 2005
in the capacity of Assistant Pastor. Pastor Hall is
from Minnesota and attended a Christian college
there before attending seminary at the Calvary
Baptist Seminary in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. He and
his wife Dale, have 3 children; Kelly, Casey, and
Katie.
Our Facilities
As Calvary Baptist Church was being established,
a number of different buildings met our early need
for a meeting place. These included the homes of our
members when the church was started, the old Shiloh
School House, and also the Christian School of York.
Ten acres of land was purchased along Roosevelt
Avenue in 1982, and our first building was erected
and occupied in April 1984. Additional parking space
was added along with new nurseries, bathrooms, &
office space in 1994. A large recreational
area was leveled and landscaped on the church
property in 1994 which includes a softball/soccer
field and 2 sand volleyball courts. An open air
pavilion is a
future project.
In the summer of 1998 ground was broken for a new
800-seat auditorium. This needed addition was
occupied in May of 1999, to the praise of the glory
of His grace. Our original auditorium was
remodeled into a youth room, two nurseries,
classroom space, and a room for our church library.
This needed addition was occupied in July, 2000.
A full size basement under our new auditorium was
finished in 2002, with a large fellowship
hall/classroom area, bathrooms, a commercial
kitchen, storage areas, & a “prophets chamber.”
Our Purpose
God’s Word clearly describes the purpose of a New
Testament church in Matthew 28:18-20. Our goals are
to evangelize the lost both here and abroad, plus to
educate and edify the believers.
We sing the great hymns of the faith, using
conservative songs, hymns and spiritual music in our
worship services. We preach the life-changing
message of the Gospel –“Ye must be born again!” We
believe in the once for all inspired Word of God and
use it for our standard of faith & practice. In all
things we seek to glorify God.
