Our History

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1978

Calvary Baptist Church exists to glorify God through faithful commitment to the Lord’s Great Commission and also to His Great Commandments.

Calvary Baptist Church - York, PA

Calvary Baptist Church held its first worship service in April of 1978. Three families felt led by the Lord to begin an independent, Baptist church to reach the Dover/ York area for Jesus Christ. Calvary Baptist Church of Lancaster, PA served as our mother church, helping with financial and prayer support until our church became self-supporting.

In the early years of CBC, a variety of temporary facilities provided a place for the church family to meet. A permanent home came about on ten acres of land purchased along Roosevelt Avenue in 1982. Our first building was occupied in April, 1984.

Additional parking space, nurseries, restrooms, office space and a large recreational area was added in 1994. Ground was broken in 1998 for our 750 seat auditorium, and it was occupied with great anticipation in May 1999, to “the praise of the glory of His grace.”

Our original auditorium was remodeled into a youth room, nurseries, classrooms, and our church library. The basement area under our new auditorium was finished in 2002 providing the church with a large fellowship hall/classroom area, along with a nice kitchen facility.

Pastor Wahlberg and Pastor Hall announced their retirement in 2022 with their last day of service in February 2023.  The church approved Pastor Loggans as the new Senior Pastor, who then started March 2023.

Our Purpose

Calvary Baptist Church exists for the purpose of glorifying God and proclaiming His Word.

Our great commandment is to love God.

“Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.”

Matthew 22:36, 37

Our great commission is to go into all the world with the gospel message.

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

Our great commitment is to faithfully serve our Lord Jesus Christ.

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” I Corinthians 4:2
